This reader app is listed as the "Texthelp PDF Reader" in the Google Play Store, but it also reads EPUBs. It includes a suite of tools for reading and learning support commonly used by people with non-visual reading disabilities, patterned after the tools available in Read & Write for Google. EPUBs must first be loaded into Google Drive. The reader allows users to select a variety of text layout alignments, including left-align, right-align, centered text, and justified text. It also provides a number of learning tools including foreign language translation, word dictionaries, an annotation tool and the ability to extract highlighted portions of an EPUB into a new Google Doc for later study. The reader also includes a number of speech engines in several languages. However, the reader does not have a way to disable the side-by-side page view, and does not automatically advance the page view while reading.
Operating system accessibility
Reading system activation
Navigate to chapters through the Table of Contents
After a stop, the reading will resume at the beginning of the section of the text that was highlighted. However, one could use the "click to speak" command to manually restart at the beginning of the last sentence read.
The Read Aloud feature should continue until interrupted by the user
When set to either "book style only" or "book style with user style" the read-aloud will stop when the page in view has come to an end. When set to "user style only" the read-aloud will continue beyond the page view, but the text will not be visible.
All text should be read in the proper order
Change Read Aloud reading speed
Reading speed can be set to one of three preset speeds.
Text to Speech handles punctuations and document structure appropriately
Text is emphasised as it is spoken by read aloud
The emphasis or highlight colour can be changed
The dual color highlighting cannot be changed. While the background color of the page itself can be changed, at least one of the dual color highlights will always remain visible.
