Summary
Tested on iOS 17 on an iPhone 11 smartphone. Whilst Books does not offer a read aloud feature, the Speak Screen feature of iOS integrates well with the app. There is no support for alternate text for images.

Summary
Test on iOS 17 on an iPhone 11 smartphone. Visual adjustments are well supported. The Books app also provides the ability to customize themes to adjust the line, character and word spacing, as well as justification of the text.
